Dales Super Store - DEF Level & Temp Sensors

Diesel Exhaust Fluid (DEF) System - DEF Level & Temp Sensors

DEF Level & Temperature Sensors are integral components of the DEF sending unit, which is typically mounted to the DEF tank. These sensors collaborate to monitor the level, temperature, and quality of DEF, ensuring optimal efficiency of the SCR system.

Level Sensor: This sensor alerts the driver when the DEF tank is nearing empty and triggers warning lights on the dashboard when DEF levels are low.
Temperature Sensor: The temperature sensor monitors the DEF tank temperature and alerts the operator if it reaches a critical level, such as when freezing is imminent in cold conditions. Maintaining an optimal DEF storage temperature of 77°F (with a range of 12°F to 86°F) is crucial for preserving its effectiveness and preventing premature degradation.

By monitoring DEF temperature, concentration, and level, these sensors contribute to the seamless operation of the SCR system. Most vehicles are equipped with a DEF level gauge on the dashboard, similar to a fuel gauge, and a warning lamp that illuminates when DEF levels are low.
