Dales Super Store - Diesel Exhaust Fluid (DEF) System

Diesel Particulate Filters DPF, Diesel Oxidation Catalysts DOC, Selective Catalytic Reduction SCR - Diesel Exhaust Fluid (DEF) System

Diesel Exhaust Fluid (DEF) Systems are a key technology in reducing the environmental impact of diesel engines. Implemented in response to EPA's 2010 mandate for lower vehicle emissions, DEF utilizes Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR) to significantly decrease harmful nitrogen oxides (NOx) emissions. NOx gases are a major contributor to smog and acid rain, making their reduction crucial for cleaner air.

Our DEF systems, designed specifically for heavy commercial and off-highway diesel vehicles, combine SCR catalysts and urea dosing systems to achieve up to 95% conversion of NOx into harmless nitrogen, water, and CO2. This enables diesel engines to operate more efficiently with reduced fuel consumption while maintaining compliance with stringent emissions standards.

More About Diesel Exhaust Fluid (DEF) System

Diesel Exhaust Fluid (DEF) is a safe and essential component of modern diesel engines. Non-toxic and non-flammable, it poses no harm to humans, animals, or the environment when handled correctly.

Proper storage is crucial for maintaining DEF's effectiveness. While it can freeze at 12°F, most onboard systems are equipped with heating mechanisms to ensure its functionality in cold climates. However, DEF should be stored in a dry, clean, shaded area, ideally below 95°F, as prolonged exposure to high temperatures or direct sunlight can degrade its quality.

DEF plays a critical role in enabling heavy-duty trucks and machinery to meet EPA emissions standards, making it a ubiquitous element in diesel engine operation. Vehicles equipped with SCR systems often have sensors that monitor DEF levels, prompting a slowdown or shutdown if the fluid runs out. Thankfully, DEF is readily available at most truck stops, ensuring a convenient and consistent supply for diesel vehicle operators.
