DPF Delete - The Why and Why You Shouldn't

Deleting the DPF, CAT, and/or EGR was a popular upgrade on Ford Powerstroke, GM Duramax, and Dodge Cummins Trucks. We've all heard from forums and numerous outlets that deleting your DPF system is the way to go these days. What we never seen backing these claims is data and tests. It's always hearsay and misnomers that seem to find it's way to fueling the debate on whether to delete or keep your emissions intact. Well as you probably know, we like to take these tales and try to figure out for ourselves what is the truth behind what to do with the factory emissions.

What Is the DPF and Why Delete It?

The Diesel Particulate Filter (DPF) is a device designed to remove diesel particulate matter or soot from the exhaust gas of a diesel engine. While the DPF is installed and active the thought was air exhaust flow will be restricted reducing fuel milage and performance. By deleting the DPF you will improve fuel mileage, performance, and open up the possibility of adding more horsepower and torque. This is no longer the case because modern emission systems have become so efficient.

What Is the CAT and Why Delete It?

The catalytic converter (CAT) is a device designed to burn off excess gasoline and other gas in the exhaust. Like the DPF when installed the air exhaust flow will thorough it. The CAT is not going to effect your performance goals and why some say it also runs the risk of getting clogged, we have not seen that to be the case.

What is the EGR and Why Delete It?

The EGR (Exhaust Gas Re-circulation) is a system designed to recycle some exhaust back through the intake to control combustion temperatures.

What Should I Do?

These parts are meant to be replaced of serviced, we offer many complete solutions to fix or repair these parts of the emission system. If you are looking to delete of the DPF/CAT/EGR I would recomend fix this with your truck then meeting someone in a back alley that will cause future headaches.

In summary deleting your DPF/CAT/EGR will NOT increase performance, fuel mileage, or extend the life of your engine. We carry custom solutions with the best products and prices available. If you have any questions please feel free to give us a call or send us an email and we will be glad to help.

DISCLAIMER: Please check your local regulations, in most locations deleting any of the emissions devices is legal on RACE and OFFROAD vehicles only.
